Alpenglow

The term derives from the Ladin language and means ‘turn pink’. The alpenglow is the phenomenon which sees the Dolomites take on a reddish colour at dawn and dusk, and which inspired the famous legend of King Laurin.

It occurs due to the composition of the Dolomite rock, Dolostone, which contains calcium carbonate and magnesium.
